To Replace or Not to Replace...

A common question when a bathroom sink or kitchen faucet is not performing properly is, "Should I repair or replace the faucet?" During any residential or commercial faucet’s life cycle, it may leak, clog, or have a low flow. These are common disturbances for any water fixture. Therefore, we at The Chicago Faucet Shoppe  have come up with some ideas that can help better determine whether to repair or replace a faucet that is not working properly.

How old is your faucet?
The age of the faucet is important as the faucet may have met the end of its life cycle. Ten to 15 years is a great life for a faucet, and some can last longer. However, if you are experiencing problems with your faucet, it is possible that age and use could have taken its toll. You may want to replace the faucet if it is old or if the cost of the parts for repair are somewhat expensive. You don't want to throw too much money at an old faucet that may have run its course.

How much are parts?
If age is not a factor or the parts are not close to equal the cost of your faucet when new, you may want to repair the faucet. Sometimes, the faucet repair can be a less expensive alternative than replacing the entire unit. It is important to research what the cause of the problem is before calling a plumber. Calling The Chicago Faucet Shoppe before you call a plumbing service to diagnose your problem can save you time and money. We can help determine over the phone what could be causing the problem and then what parts, along with their cost, are needed for the repair. If you happen to be in the city of Chicago, swing by the shop and our team will be more than happy to assist you. This way you can determine which path¾repair or replace¾you may wish to go down before calling a plumber.

Are there any other options?
The Chicago Faucet Shoppe favors repairing existing faucets (new and old) and can suggest whether repair or replacement is best. We have many clients who own CraneChicago FaucetsKohler, Grohe, KWC and American Standard faucets. These faucet companies might claim that some parts are obsolete or discounted, and you may find yourself about to rip out the faucet that worked seamlessly for years. This does NOT have to be the case at The Chicago Faucet Shoppe.  We take pride in salvaging old faucets and are dedicated to having an inventory of in-stock parts that dates back to the early 1900s.
